The Lac La Ronge Regional Waste Management Corporation would like to inform the members of our landfill about the changes to material being accepted, and how it will impact your communities. The LLRRWMC landfill will no longer be accepting building rubble, without a demolition permit. This permit should simply include a checkbox for the customer to declare whether the building was built before the year 1990, and what type of insulation is present. If it was built before 1990, a building inspector must sign off on the demolition permit confirming there is no sign of asbestos, or asbestos containing material (insulation, concrete, floor/ceiling tile, drywall, etc.).
If the client is asked to present a permit and does not have the required documentation/signatures, the load may be denied by landfill staff. LLRRWMC have the right to refuse any suspicious loads that require further testing or investigation, and any loads that do not present the required paperwork.
It is the responsibility of each municipality to ensure the demolition permits include a declaration for asbestos and appoint a qualified inspector when necessary. It is also the responsibility of municipalities to ensure their community members and contractors are aware of this requirement.
It is up to the LLRRWMC Board of Directors and Manager to protect our staff, public customers and the environment from harmful hazardous waste such as this, and we appreciate your assistance in this matter.
If you have any questions or further clarification, please contact Katy Muirhead.
