EcoCentre Funding by SARRC
The Saskatchewan Association for Resource Recovery Corp. (SARRC) manages the province-wide Used Oil Materials Recycling Program, which was established in 1996. This program, developed by the Saskatchewan Waste Management Advisory Group (WMAG) and the Western Canada Used Oil Task Force (WCTF), focuses on recycling used oil, filters, containers, and since 2014, antifreeze and diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) containers.
The program addresses the environmental hazards posed by improper disposal of used oil and antifreeze. Funded through an Environmental Handling Charge (EHC) on new oil, filters, antifreeze, and related containers, the user-paid levy supports the collection and recycling process, ensuring sustainability. This initiative is approved by Saskatchewan Environment and was developed through consultations with industry, governments, and environmental groups.
